July 4th Fireworks

We had a great view from the roof terrace in our apartment block this year for the July 4th Macy’s Firework display which is estimated to cost $5million. Six barges are lined up on the Hudson positioned between 20th & 55th St which house the fireworks. Once the fireworks started it shrouded Manhattan with smoke which made for a great picture opportunity:


As you can see from the above & below pictures plenty of boats anchored up on the Hudson making a perfect viewing spot. Here’s some interesting facts for the display which lasted ~30 minutes:

§  40,000 exploded over the course of the display

§  Explosions happened at a rate 1,500 per minute

§  Fireworks reach up to 1,000 feet into the air
