One of the top free things to do in NYC is visit the Brooklyn Brewery in Williamsburg for a free brewery tour. We gave it a shot at the weekend and it was surprisingly good; unfortunately the main brew house is under expansion so the tour took place across the street in one of their smaller buildings.
The tour was more of a history lesson about the company but it was really interesting. In a nutshell; the brewery was set up by two friends who held pretty high jobs in respectable companies within Manhattan, they tired of the corporate rat race and invested $300,000 setting up the Brooklyn Brewery which was money invested by friends & family (some still have shares today). The brewery took off and is now extremely successful on a global level. I won’t divulge any more information in case you decide to pay the brewery a visit, however as a teaser other stories included a brush with the Mafia and the guy who created the I Love NY campaign.
After the tour we bought some tokens to test a few of the ales, I recommend the IPA and the Weisse…<hiccup> J
